What is Pain? Why Does God Allow Pain?

What Is Pain?

“Pain is a distracting and sometimes debilitating message from the nervous system to the brain that says, ‘Something’s wrong and needs to be addressed,’ ” explained Dr. Gramazio. He compared it to a smoke or fire alarm that breaks into our consciousness as a warning that could prevent injury or even death. Without the intense hurt that comes from stepping on a nail or touching a hot stove, a person could suffer serious infection or be injured by repeating a harmful action.

Why Does God Allow Pain?

God watches over us and uses pain as His tough love for our protection. Many illnesses and diseases would silently destroy us unless we were made aware of their presence in our body. The same is true when we suffer trauma. Fractures, hernias, broken bones all signal the need for attention and treatment through different types of pain: aches, soreness, throbbing, or serious hurt.

Does Pain Management Defeat Its Purpose?

“Managing pain does not defeat its purpose,” said Gramazio. “Firemen turn off a distracting alarm system after they arrive on the scene of a blaze. Similarly, after a body’s distress warning is activated, then constant or reoccurring pain can create a vicious cycle that can cause inflammation and even interfere with the body’s healing process. There are two categories of pain: Acute, that which may have occurred in the last two or three days, and Chronic, which is a long term and sometimes constant pain. At PMCA we help manage both types.”

Among the painful conditions treated by the Center are herniated or ruptured discs, arm and leg and back, lingering post-operative, shingles, migraine headaches, traumatic injury, muscle spasm, reflex sympathetic dystrophy, neuropathic, and even pain caused by cancer.

Electrotherapy Works in Harmony with the Body

The Center works with traditional medical practices in addressing the causality and treatment of patients. Gramazio, who works for the Pain Management Department headed by Dr. Frank Matalone, specializes in Electrotherapy. This FDA approved non-invasive technology uses small electrical currents that harmonize with the body’s normal nerve electrochemistry to boost natural healing power. In some cases, even non-healing wounds have healed by the removal of blockage and increased blood flow that normalizes cellular function.

The patient may be treated with manual and massage therapy, pharmaceutal naturopathic medicines (botanical and herbal, vitamins, minerals and dietary supplements), and detoxification using the FIR sauna. A dietician may also recommend changes in diet and minor related life styles. Over two to four weeks, a typical treatment will involve six to ten half hour sessions. The patient may have follow up visits over a two to three month period and will typically experience anywhere from a 70-90% management of pain.

Faith and Positive Mental Attitude Is Vital for Healing

Dr. Gramazio has been a Christian from his earliest youth and is a firm believer that in addition to the treatments that he and his fellow ND’s administer, a person’s faith and a positive mental attitude are vital to bringing the body back to a balanced state or homeostasis.

Pain can be managed without compromising its purpose. To learn more or to set up an appointment, Dr. Gramazio encourages you to contact the Progressive Medical Centers at (770) 676-6000. The call could change your life.

Time Machines and the Nineteenth Century

Time Machines and the Nineteenth Century

Mechano-Neural Therapy experienced great popularity in the late 1900′s and early 20th century. Dr Ella Kilgus originated the therapy at that time, but the actual practice can be traced to early greek civilization.

I learned to do the technique when I was 6 years of age. I’ve been doing it ever since on my family, my dogs, the nurses at work, and one time on myself as I braced myself against a wall to penetrate the pressure points along the spine.

Only a few of us know how to do it: my sister, my family doctor’s daughter, her sister, her son. I taught my husband and a nurse at work how to do it, and they are whiz kid’s with their own style and flair for healing.

I am doing research on Mechano, as we call it, so that I can disseminate this information by way of a book I intend to write.

My Homeopathic family doctor’s daughter and I just began exchanging this massage every Wednesday at eleven in the morning.

I go to her house because it is conveniently located in the heart of our hometown, across from a nineteenth century church, with a mammoth bell which rings the time on the hour.

Her home was built in the mid 1800′s. My friend is caring for the house which has been inhabited by four generations of her family, up to this point in time.

Nineteenth Century antiques furnish this mansion, every room of it, not because it’s decorated that way, but because this is the way it’s always been.

The smells take me back to my earliest memory. I was raised in that house as well as my family residence, which is located one mile across town.

After the treatment exchange, I left the house, rejuvenated, feeling alive and energized. Ideas were swirling around my head about the Mechano book, the title of which has yet to be determined.

I recently joined Pat O’Bryan’s Portable Empire University where we learn the details of internet marketing by accessing hours and hours of valuable “How To” video and audio presentations.

Pat O’Bryan has a well run forum where he regularly participates. This makes us all feel connected to him, the guru who is talented at making us all feel special.

Pat’s new book entitled: “Your Portable Empire: How To Make Money Anywhere While Doing What You Love” will be released 9/4/07. He got the idea that he wanted to have a book signing at the social networking site called “Second Life.”

He purchased and decorated The Portable Empire Island and set it up for select members to come and chat with him and everyone else who shows up as we all await the unveiling of his book, his creation, his baby!

In order to go to The Portable Empire Island, I had to create what is called a walking, talking avatar, complete with an outfit, hair style and color, facial and body structure of my choice, any and all of which I can change at any time.

Her name is Mooie Infinity.

She feels like my alter ego.

I worry about her as I go about my first life.

I voiced these concerns to Pat’s avatar, Koanwrangler Ibanez, who generously offered his roof to Mooie, situated by a lovely fountain with lavender colored water complete with the sound effect of rippling water, when the Portable Empire Island isn’t in full swing.

My dogs absolutely love the soothing sound.

In the time-line of one day, I went from the 19th century to the future, which is now.

I went from a musty smelling 19th century room overlooking the oldest inland street in America, to a virtual reality ocean front property at Second Life, with others who desire to socialize, network about their businesses, and offer our support to one another.

It’s quite the mind trip.

Space travel.

Time machines.

Learning centers.

The greatest alternative to bar room socializing I’ve ever seen.

We do live in interesting times.

www.encognitive.com http Dr. Robert Rowen, MD is internationally known for his work in the field of complementary, alternative and integrative medicine. He is known as the “Father of Medical Freedom” for his efforts to legalize alternative medicine in 1990 in Alaska. He worked with Senator Ward and Governor Hickel to accomplish this amazing feat. The rare medical freedom he enjoyed in Alaska enabled him to greatly expand his knowledge and experience in a multitude of disciplines and therapies not normally found in medicine. Jumping into alternative medicine in 1983, through a practice in acupuncture, he quickly incorporated nutritional medicine, chelation therapy, oxidation therapy, homeopathy and herbal medicine, and took intensive training in neural therapy and prolotherapy to help treat and eliminate acute and chronic pain. Alaska’s laws enabled him to work extensively with innovative cancer therapies, ozone, and ultraviolet blood irradiation therapy. He is internationally known and respected for training hundreds of open-minded physicians in these techniques from around the world. Dr. Robert Rowen is truly one of the health heroes I met and became friends with over 45 years of health research.

Brain Stimulation with Small Amounts of Electricity

Brain Stimulation with Small Amounts of Electricity

Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation (CES) is a treatment for brain disorders that has actually been around for quite some time. This is a non-invasive method of altering brain functioning by using small amounts of electricity. The general idea behind this technology is that you attach a clip to each of your earlobes and then allow a 80 to 600 microAmpere current to pass through. This is a very tiny amount of electricity and the only thing a person feels is a slight tingling feeling in their ears. This can be performed on a person while they are fully awake and has few side effects in comparison to the more drastic electroshock. This treatment has been shown to improve several different brain based disorders such as depression, insomnia and anxiety.

Researchers are not totally clear on how this device works, but it appears to have an overall stimulating effect on the brain. It may alter various mood regulating neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine. It may also release endorphins, the brain’s feel good chemical. Recently researchers have tested CES on patients with generalized anxiety disorder. Generalized anxiety disorder is characterized by chronic worry and apprehension, often for no apparent reason. The researchers found that CES showed promising results and there was a significant decrease in anxiety scores in those who were getting the real treatment as opposed to the sham treatment.

Scientists have also tested this device in those with spinal cord injury. They found that CES was able to significantly reduce pain in those with this type of injury. So CES may be able to help those who currently have unmanigable pain. They have also tested it in patients with fibromyalgia and found that patients reduced the amount of pain they felt and increased their well being with this treatment.

The best evidence for CES as a treatment is for depression and insomnia. When compared to antidepressants, CES has a greater mood altering boost than almost any currently marketed antidepressant. The improvement above and beyond the placebo response is a little over 60 percent, while for antidepressants it is usually under 30 percent. So CES may be a powerful mood booster when compared to most other drugs. It is also a cheaper alternative than drugs and costs less over the course of a year than antidepressants. This treatment has also helped those with insomnia sleep better than those treated with sham CES.

So overall, cranial electrotherapy stimulation is an effective way to alleviate many brain based disorders. It has a proven efficacy for depression, insomnia and anxiety. It may also have other beneficial properties such as reducing pain.
